A Special Valentine

Here is one of my most recent projects- a special valentine.  My grandmother, who introduced me to crocheting, recently sent me a request to make this for one of her good friends.  The thin, thread-like yarns are not typically my favorite to work with but this is my grandma so I had to try, right?  Well, at first I started with a No. 10 yarn and it looked very delicate but upon sitting in a local yarn shop with my fellow-crocheter, Mandy Nelson of http://www.purplehook.com/ , I noticed that the yarn was more burgundy than red.  Mandy graciously gave me a skein of Patons Grace (Cardinal red) to try and now I think I have a new favorite yarn!  Thanks Mandy.   This is the prettiest red I've seen- truly as bright as a cardinal.

I was so honored that my grandma would ask me to do this for her.  She told me that she used to make these types of things years ago.  It was nice to realize that this skill that she passed on to me will continue through me as well as my daughter.  Who knows, in the future my daughter may have a  daughter of her own whom she can pass this tradition down to as well.
